For the disposal of waste, usable material is initially separated for recycling and the waste residue (1) is dried and mixed with a solid thermal carrier of cement and/or water glass. The waste is contained within a biologically inert and impermeable shrouding and heated. The material is laid in layers (2a-2i) as a buried dump, which projects in a hump (3) over ground level, with a covering (4).
