The mat has longitudinal threads or strings, which can take high loads and have at least average tensile strength of 80kN/m in main direction of load. The mat is divided in longitudinal direction between alternating strips (2,3) taking high or low loads. The non-load bearing strips are 20-200cm wide, and the distance between the strips corresponds to the distance between vertical drains (5) to be installed. The mats are 3-8m wide, at least 20m long, and are rolled-up in longitudinal direction. Average tensile strength of the mat is 80kN/m to 1500kN/m, pref. 100 to 600kN/m.
