The method for welding or closing food product covers consisting of a material containing collagen involves heating the cover material to a temperature at which cross bonds between collagen filaments are temporarily removed. As the cover material cools down, cross bonds are formed between collagen filaments in the contacting cover sections which are to be welded/joined to one another.
