The mains isolation device has a control circuit to detect the resistance of the load circuit, and to control the drive circuit which switches the circuit breaker. The mains isolation device enables a load current circuit (49) to be isolated from the mains voltage. There is a control circuit (1) for the detection of the resistance of the load current circuit. This also controls a drive circuit (23) which switches a circuit breaker (24) automatically. according to the detected resistance of the load current circuit. The circuit breaker can be operated mechanically via a mechanical switching part (41). The circuit breaker can be operated via a remote control, and a receiver unit contained in the mains isolator.
