Production of a catalyst (1) having a non-circular monolith (2) comprises bending two partial casing metal sheets (4, 5) so that they overlap with the edge regions (12-15) running in the longitudinal direction of the monolith; and joining the edge regions. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the production of the catalyst comprising a tensioning device for receiving the central web section (6, 7) of the partial casing metal sheets. Preferred Features: The partial casing metal sheets are bent into a U-shape.
