To wind cross wound bobbins, the actual yarn diameter is measured (22) for calculation (19) of the value to give the free space in laying the yarn windings. In winding cross wound bobbins, the actual laying interval is determined together with an abrupt change in the winding ratio and an abrupt change in the intersecting angle of the cross winding. In addition, a translation ratio is computed, taken into account from the actual laying interval.
