Battery charger with ability to increase charging current to battery without increase of supply to charger, has supply voltage generator coupled to AC source, and charging circuit coupled from generator circuit
The charger has a supply voltage generator coupled to an AC source. There is also a charging circuit coupled from the generator circuit The charging circuit includes a first and second capacitors coupled to each other. The charging circuit applies a charge current from the supply voltage generator to the battery, via the first capacitor, during a first half of a charging cycle. The charge current from the supply voltage generator is stored in the second capacitor, during the second half of the charging cycle. The charge current is applied to the battery during the first half of the charging cycle, to increase the charge current applied to the battery during the first half of the charging cycle. The supply voltage generator is preferably an AC transformer for reducing the voltage from the AC source to the predetermined supply voltage. The charging circuit preferably includes a first diode connected in series with the first capacitor, and in parallel to the second capacitor. The diode is forward biased during the first half of the charging cycle.
