Optical determination of the shape of an object by determination of the normal to the surface of the object at a large number of points and relating the normals to image points so that an entire surface image is built-up
Method involves determination of the normal to the surface of a test object from a number of observation points and then relating of these normals to image points so that a three-dimensional (3-D) image of the object can be built up. Method has the following steps: (a) positioning of the object (1), at least a light source (2) and a camera (3) in several positions (b) detecting each position of the object (Gi), the light source (Li) and the camera (Ki) (c) recording images (4) of the object (1) in positions (Gi, Li, Ki) (d) determination of the normals (5) to the object surface from the positions (Gi, Li, Ki) and the images (4) (e) allocation of corresponding image points (6) in the images (4) using the surface normals (f) determining the object 3- D shape from positions (Gi, Li, Ki) using the surface normals (5) and the corresponding image points (6).
