The lighting device (5) is integrated in the armrest (3) mounted on the inside surface (2) of the automobile passenger door (1), in the end face (4) of the armrest which faces backwards relative to the travel direction when the door is closed, for providing a warning signal visible from the rear when the passenger door is opened.
