The procedure for connecting a pipe(1) made of fiber-reinforced plastic to a metal part(2) entails installing on the end of the pipe a small clearance ring(3) made of electrically conductable material. A very high magnetic field is built up for a short time in the region of the ring's outer face so that the ring is magnetically compressed under plastic deformation. The outer face of the metal part is roughened. The metal part and the ring are assembled into a composite component which has a axial annular slot to receive the end section of the pipe.
