The marker unit has one or more spaced apart marker rods(4) in the front and/or at the rear of the vehicle. The marker rod together with an adjusting mechanism are located on the front and/or rear bumper(3) and can be swivelled into an upright position in which the free end(5) of the rod projects into the driver's field of vision. The adjusting mechanism may be operated by an electric motor, or by pneumatic or mechanical means. The adjusting mechanism is accommodated in a marker rod housing integrated into the bumper.
