Optical interface signal generator has an optical emitter (3) and a receiver (4) within a common transparent housing (1). The housing is shaped so that when the upper outer surface is placed in air total reflection of the light between emitter and receiver takes place. The light path is directed from the emitter to the receiver and remains within the housing without crossing any air sections.
