The operating method is carried out using a microcontroller (23) or a microprocessor and a non-transient memory (74) for controlling the electric motor (32). With the occurrence of a fault, at least one operating data value, such as the rotation speed of the electric motor, is automatically stored in the non-transient memory. Routinely important operating parameters can be monitored from time to time and the measured values are then processed and compared with stored values. Independent claims are included for an electric motor device.
