Apparatus for coating the surfaces of workpieces comprises a housing (1); a burner head (2); feed lines (3) for supplying the apparatus with media for the coating process; an ignition unit; a nozzle (4) (coating nozzle) for a plasma beam (5) with a plasma powder; and a nozzle (7) (cleaning /activating nozzle) leading to the coating nozzle for a plasma beam without a plasma powder. Preferred Features: A separate ignition unit is provided for the coating nozzle and the cleaning /activating nozzle.
