Producing smooth multilayer composite moldings suitable for e.g. automobile interior trim panels employs skin and foam sheet composite with pre-injected plastic substrate, press molding to specified curvatures A skin- and a foam (sheet) material are introduced in combination between positive and negative mold halves. Molten thermoplastic is introduced between the skin and the surface of one mold half. The skin is laminated to at least a part of the surface of a substrate made from the thermoplastic resin. A recess is formed in the skin material lamination region. Thickness t of the foam layer in the skin before molding, amounts to 0.6 R or less. R is the minimum radius of the recess on the lamination side of the skin over the substrate in the lamination region.
