To form a shaped component from a wire blank (31), cut from a wire core conductor, it is placed in a die (18). In an initial press stage, it is given a first crumpled shape by a forging tool (10), and finally shaped in a second press stage by a finishing forging tool (8), and the shaped wire (32) is removed from the die (18). The two forging tools (10,8) are operated in alternating cycles by a crankshaft (2), through the crank drive take-off sections (3,9,15) on fixed lifting paths, where the die is moved to and fro between initial and finishing press stages.
