The device is pref. for movement in cylindrical, flexible or rigid hollow spaces. The cylinder jacket (5) contains fluid-filled hollow chambers, which are deformed by varying fluid pressures and cause deformation of the cylinder jacket. Fluid pressures in different hollow chambers are regulated to cause a peristaltic movement of the jacket. The cylinder jacket consists of parallel hoses. Flexible bristles are located on the cylinder jacket to move the device forward by acting with the surrounding tube wall.
