A movable C-arm with an X-ray source (100) fixed to it projects energy through a 3D object (130) onto a detector (140) to create an image on a detector surface (142). This allows the 3D object to be projected onto the detector surface to create a two-dimensional image. Rotating and translational movement in the detector is compensated relative to the X-ray source in the C-arm X-ray unit by transforming an image in the detector surface onto a virtual detector surface.
