The system has two electrode arrangements, each with near, central and far electrodes. Devices provide a first cathode pulse at the first central electrode, and a second cathode pulse at the second central electrode. A combination of the first central electrode, the first far electrode or the first near electrode can be selectively connected to the second central electrode, the second far electrode or the second near electrode to provide an anode reference terminal for the first cathode pulse and the second cathode pulse.
