The digital image enhancement method calculates the pixel window luminance of a pixel window and compares the pixel window luminance variation with a threshold value for corresponding processing of the input pixels for enhancing the digital image, e.g. by using a smoothing filter or a non-linear enhancement filter. An Independent claim for a computer-readable medium for storing a digital image enhancement program is also included.
