The roll bar (1) assembly, to protect the occupants of an open automobile on rolling over, has a cassette housing (7) with side walls (8,9) forming a U-profile. The guide block (11), within the profiled side walls, has leg extensions at the end sides forming a profile bridge, firmly bonded to the legs of the U-profiles of the side walls. The cross beam section (5) to take the ends of the roll bar is a block, with drilled openings to take the leg tubes (3,4) of the roll bar, and it has shaped projections to fit within the U-profiles of the side walls in a sliding fit, which is free of play, and can be against a plastics profile for a smooth sliding movement.
