The system to feed a fabric workpiece through an embroidery sewing machine, at the given positions within a rectangular X-Y coordinate plane on the stitching table (1), has a number of drive mechanisms (10) for the Y-direction which are parallel to each other at a set gap between them. They are linked to a Y-direction drive body (36) to give a drive in the Y-direction on the machine table. A drive body (30) for the X-direction is connected to a number of X-drive mechanisms (11) to give an X-direction drive on the machine table. The frame (37), to hold the fabric workpiece in a release mounting, can have a movement in the X- and Y-directions in relation to the powered bodies (30,36). The X-direction drives (11) are between the outermost Y-direction drive (10) and its neighbor. The X- and Y-direction drives (11,10) have synchronizing disks, carried axially by carriers at both ends of a frame which is open upwards, each with a U-shape. A synchronizing belt passes around the synchronizing disks. An opposing pair of disk shafts, each at the Y-drives, are interlinked by the connecting shafts (33) of the drive motor (32) for the Y-direction, to be rotated in one direction or the other, to rotate the Y-drives (10) together through the shafts (33), and the synchronizing belt moves in the same direction. An opposing pair of disk shafts (22) are the connection to the drive motor (21) for the X-direction to be rotated in one direction or the other, to rotate the X-drives (11) together through the shafts (22), and the synchronizing belt moves in the same direction. Linear motors power the drive mechanisms (11,10) for the X- and Y-directions.
