The assembly for the continuous cleaning of exhaust gases, such as from large scale incinerators, has a cylinder body (120) which is permeable to ultra violet light for the exhaust gas to pass through. The cylinder contains a photo catalyst body (110) within it in contact with the gas flow. A light source is at the outer side of the cylinder, to excite the photo catalyst with light. Both ends of the gas cleaner are connected to the gas exhaust channel, for the exhaust gas to recirculate through it. The cylinder body has a double cylinder structure, with an outer (121) and inner (122) cylinder of quartz glass and reinforcement quartz glass plates (123) between them. The light is provided by a combination of a disinfecting lamp with a black light lamp. The quartz glass is embossed either at the cylinder body or the reinforcement plates. The air feed pipe is connected at the joint between the exhaust gas channel and the gas cleaner, for air to flow through the center of the cylinder body. The exhaust gas flows through the gas cleaning assembly without temp. control. Every compartment within the cylinder body contains photo catalysts, in contact with the gas flow and exposed to light for excitation, and the inner surfaces of the compartments are polished to give a mirror reflection. The housing can be elliptical or circular. The ends of the gas cleaner open outwards at the housing, with air cooling for the lamps. The assembly has a rectangular filter container with a connection to the exhaust gas channel, for a continuous flow. Its interior is filled with photo catalyst balls in a number of cylinder housings, which are exposed to excitation light. An opening in the lower section of the wall allows the catalyst balls to be removed. The filter material is either ceramic balls which have had an alkali treatment or silica gel with particles of 5-25 mm. The photo catalyst balls can be a porous metal or ceramic body with a titanium oxide coating. The porous ceramic material is of active carbon, silica gel or porous glass. Or they can be of heat-resistant materials with a titanium oxide coating, where the fibers are woven, nonwoven or knitted. The titanium oxide has a structured crystalline shape. An Independent claim is included for an exhaust gas cleaning process where the gas flow is in contact with photo catalysts, excited by light, to destroy matter in the gas which is damaging to the environment.
