A device for the handling of containers, e.g. kegs, has a controlled movable apparatus carrier (6) for moving the containers plus at least one multiple gripper (7) provided on the apparatus carrier for the simultaneous gripping and holding of several containers. The multiple gripper forms between at least three gripper jaws, at least two mountings for each container. At least a part of the gripper jaws is movable vertically to a gripper plane by first adjusting elements to open and close the mountings in a first axis direction. The apparatus carrier is provided on an arm (5) of a robot (4). The gripper is movable in an axis direction vertical to the axis of the container upon gripping the container.
