Graphics accelerator memory control unit (102) receives pixels having three types of color information (RGB). One color data is deleted per pixel and color information stored. Interpolation processor (103) interpolates erased color information with pixel containing erased color information for each pixel stored in image memory (106). As two types of color information are stored in image memory for each pixel, memory capacity is decreased. Pixels are divided into groups of e.g. even and odd scan lines. Information for each group is stored in image buffer (106). For an odd scan line, the G and B color information are stored and the R color information not stored. For pixel in even scan line, R and G color information are stored and B color information not stored. For odd scan line, when color information is to be read from image buffer, color information which is not stored is interpolated with color information of pixel in neighboring even scan line and vice-versa for even scan line.
