Mold main unit (6) made of copper or copper alloy includes alloy plating (7) of tungsten and one or both of nickel and cobalt coated on section of its molten steel contact surface. The alloy plating has tungsten carbide dispersed entirely. The alloy plating contains 0-60 weight % of cobalt and nickel and 1-40 weight % of tungsten. The section coated with the alloy plating is of 0.01-2.0 mm. Nickel or nickel ferrous metal (8) may be laminated between the alloy plating and the main unit. An Independent claim is also included for mold manufacture.
