A transmission and an associated method for operatively connecting of components which are associated therewith, has a hydrostatic transmission, a mechanical gear to a planetary gear mechanism, wherein the mechanical gear is driven by a motor, and wherein the hydrostatic transmission of the mechanical transmission, and therefore in the direction of action is driven by a continuously adjustable to provide power flow through the transmission. The planetary gear mechanism preferably has three sets of planetary gears and five of members, with the output of the transmission to connect. An electrical generator and electric motor can be used instead of the hydraulic pump and of the hydraulic motor are used.
