Production of a ceramic component coated with hydroxyl apatite comprises providing a ceramic component with a titanium layer and then applying the hydroxyl apatite. Preferred Features: The titanium layer has a surface roughness of Ra = 40-50 microns and is applied using a PVD process. A TiAl6V4 alloy can be used instead of the titanium layer. The ceramic component is an aluminum oxide ceramic.
