The rapid changer has grabs (5) pivotably located on a support (8), with a central support (2) connectable at one end with a gripper suspension (3) and having an adapter (6) at its other end. The adapter can be coupled with the grab support. Several pressure fluid piston cylinder units (4) are provided for opening and closing the grabs. The pressure fluid piston cylinder units with one of their ends are pivotably linked to the central support or the gripper suspension and with their other end with the grabs. The grabs have coupling units (17), to which the pressure fluid piston cylinder units can be coupled. A cylinder centering unit (32), on coupling the adapter in the grab support, automatically centers the pressure fluid piston cylinder units accurately in relation to the coupling units.
