A sequence of images is picked up and stored in memory in a first stage. Then first (210) and second (220) reference points are determined within a first image and areas of identification (230,240) are defined around these reference points. In order to determine any misalignment in the reference points, search areas are examined within a continuation image around preset reference points that correspond at best to the areas of identification.
