Production of a powder blank comprises filling the hollow chamber of a pressing plate; introducing one end section of a first stamp into the hole of the plate; pressing the powder between two stamps forming a powder blank; enlarging the distance between the stamps to reduce the pressure on the blank; and pushing the blank out of the hole using a relative movement of the plate against the blank after reducing the pressure and before stopping reduction of the pressure and completely removing the blank from the hole before the pressure is zero. Preferred Features: The powder is a magnetic powder, preferably a rare earth alloy powder having an average particle size of 5 mu m or less.
