Motor vehicle piston engine of V-bank cylinders carries connecting rods from pistons to crankshaft in excentric rings which swivel both ways into maximum and minimum compression settings.
Motor vehicle piston engine of V-bank cylinders carries connecting rods from pistons to crankshaft in excentric rings which swivel both ways into maximum and minimum compression settings.
The pistons (6) of the cylinders of the two-bank V-engine are joined to the crankshaft (1) by connecting rods (5) as carried in excentric rings (3). The rings pivot in housing bearing round an axis (14) with their excentricity parallel to the crankshaft in the engine housing (4). Thus when the rings (3) turn through angles (+ phi ) and (- phi ), the crankshaft axis (13) adopts maximum and minimum compression settings respectively in the longitudinal center plane of the engine as laid through the cylinder axes (Z1,Z2) intersections. The swivel axis (14) of the excentric rings (3) and the cylinder axes intersections run in a base plane normal to the longitudinal center plane (L).
