The method involves receiving a coded signal for unlocking or opening at least one movable element, detecting the approach of a user of the vehicle or an object carried by the user in the immediate vicinity of the movable element(s) (14,16) and processing the proximity signal and the received coded signal to generate a control signal for unlocking and/or opening the movable element(s). Independent claims are also included for the following: a keyless locking system for unlocking and/or opening at least one movable element of a motor vehicle.
