The vehicle lock incorporates a rotary catch-bolt and a detent pawl (3)operated by a lever (5) mounted on a swivel axle (4). An inner control lever (7) is operated by the inner door handle and is connected to, or disconnected from, a coupling lever (9) mounted on a swivel axle (8). A central locking lever (11) mounted on a swivel axle (10) is driven by a drive mechanism to secure or unlock the door's outer handle. The coupling lever is operated by a mechanical locking element and or by a motor-driven theft-proof drive, especially lever (12). The swivel axle of the coupling lever is not fixed to the housing but is spaced apart from the swivel axle of the inner control lever on the inner control lever.
