The indicator to show abrasion wear on the sidewalls of the vehicle tyres, especially for freight carrying vehicles and buses, has a number of recesses (18) round the tyre in the sidewall (14). In plan, the recesses (18) have a lozenge shape with elliptical/rounded corners. The long axis:short axis ratio is 1:0.5-0.7 and pref. 1:0.63.
