An incinerator with a clinker treatment installation has a waterfilled tank (6) at the outlet end of its combustion chamber (7) to receive the clinkers and through which the fumes produced by the combustion process are bubbled and recycled. After the combustion chamber the installation has a recuperation heater (9), a filter (10) and an extractor (11) for removing hydrochloric acid and/or sulphur dioxide from the fumes. Between 2 and 15 per cent of the fumes are recycled through the treatment tank (6), being taken before or after the filter or extractor.
