Effervescent, flavored compositions, stable for at least three years, comprising (wt. %): a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (0.01-10), an effervescent couple (3-70), a diluent (10-90), an emulsifier (0.01-1), and an encapsulated or powdered flavoring (0.1-10). The anti-inflammatory may be piroxicam or other oxicam derivative, or an indole, an aryl carboxylic derivative, a phenamate, or a pyrazole. Preferably it is piroxicam or its salts or esters, especially the cinnamate, phosphate, or pivalate. The compositions may also contain 0.01 - 2% of a sweetening agent, and 0.1 - 10% of a taste modifier
