A single-stage oxidation dyeing method for keratin fibers involves treating the fibers, at 30 deg C or more, with a dyeing composition of pH at least 8 obtained by mixing compositions (a) and (b) immediately before use. (a) comprises a dyeing medium containing a 4-substituted 1-naphthol derivative (I). (b) comprises a dyeing medium containing an oxidant. A single-stage oxidation dyeing method for keratin fibers involves treating the fibers, at 30 deg C or more, with a dyeing composition of pH at least 8 obtained by mixing compositions (a) and (b) immediately before use. (a) comprises a dyeing medium containing at least one naphthol derivative of formula (I). (b) comprises a dyeing medium containing at least one oxidant. R1 = halo, benzyl, benzyloxy, 1-29C linear, branched or cyclic alkoxy (optionally substituted by one or more 1-4C alkyl and/or interrupted by one or more heteroatoms), 2-29C acyloxy, benzoyloxy or 2-29C alkoxycarbonyl; R2-R5 = H, halo, OH, 1-29C alkyl, 1-29C alkoxy, 1-29C acyl or benzyoxy.
