A head for a machine drawing out long fibres has a closure cap for the head hinged to a base of the machine. Pipes taking air to and from the head are integral with the cap and a protective cap hinged to a track respectively. When the closure cap is closed a fluid tight joint connects the two pipes. An automatic closure device closes the pipes in the head. The closure device may be a valve mounted in the protective cap and held open by a stop mounted on the closure cap. Opening of the closing cap removes the stop and enables a torsion spring to close the valve.
