The lock for a motor vehicle has a forked locking bolt (20) with a seating (22) to receive a keeper (10). A rotary catch plate (30) has a finger (33) to engage the periphery (25) of the lock bolt under spring force (32). The plate grips, in a locking position, a lug (24) on the bolt. The catch finger has an angled contact surface (35) to engage the lug before engagement of he plate on the lug.
