The catalyst has an improved hydrogenating function due to the presence of a group VB element in the porous structure of the zeolite component. The catalyst comprises a matrix, a zeolite and at least one element, localized in the matrix, from groups VIB, VIII and VB and a promoter element from phosphorus, boron or silicon. The porous structure of the zeolite contains a group VB element. Independent claims are also included for the preparation and use of the catalyst.
