The solar panel (1), on an aluminum frame, is fixed with a watertight seal to the open top of the polythene case (3) by 4-6 captive screws. To deter thieves these are removable only by special tool. 3 fixings on each face permit mounting on horizontal or vertical surfaces. A sheet steel corrosion-proofed chassis (4) fixed inside the case supports a battery (2) and regulator (5). For AC outputs, an inverter (6) is also fitted. Carrying handles are provided, and DC and/or AC weatherproof socket outlets, on/off switch, and, opt., photo-electric controller. Components are so positioned as to maintain gravitational stability in any of the 3 optional attitudes available. Ventilation is arranged in each attitude to prevent rain entering. Maximum weight is about 20 kg. Free-standing on either inclined end-face or on the case bottom, the case is stable, has the plane of the panel is inclined at 4, 36 or 54 degrees., respectively, to the horizontal supporting surface. A similar choice of inclination is available if the case is fixed, as provided for, to a wall, post or other vertical surface. The attitude selected will be that best suited to the latitude and time of year.
