The lavatory consists of a bowl (1) having a tube (6) with a series of cleaning water outlet nozzles round the inside of its upper edge, and a hinged seat (2) which is raised and lowered automatically by a power cylinder (4) inside a metal housing (8). The housing contains a cleaning and drying assembly (11, 12) for the seat which operates automatically when the seat is in its raised position, using water jets to clean the seat and a hot air blower to dry it, ready to be lowered automatically when a sensor detects the presence of a user.
