Front row seat of an automobile has seat part (1a) mounted on runner (6) in rail (4) fixed to floor (5). Bolt (7b) can translate perpendicularly to seat movement in casing (7a) fixed to seat part frame. Bolt is moved by electrical control (8) between active position limiting backward movement of seat and inactive position allowing longitudinal adjustment of seat. An Independent claim is also included for a vehicle whose first row seats are fitted with a device limiting the backward movement.
