Rubber composition for a tire tread contains carbon black of isobutyl phthalate adsorption index at least 140 cm3/100 g and cetyl trimethylammonium bromide adsorption 60-90. Rubber composition for a tire tread comprises 60-90 pts. wt. 1,4-polybutadiene with a high cis content and of Tg -104 to -80 deg C, 10-40 pts. wt. isoprene, polybutadiene or styrene/isoprene/butadiene rubber of Tg -30 to -10 deg C and 20-60 pts. wt. carbon black of isobutyl phthalate adsorption index at least 140 cm3/100 g and a cetyl trimethylammonium bromide adsorption of 60-90. An Independent claim is included for a tire with a tread made of the above composition.
