Concealment of electrical trunking, for building wiring installations, comprises standard plastic trunking fixed behind mainly wood covers, cornices, skirtings, etc.
Especially in the wiring or rewiring of existing buildings, running conduits, or trunking, on the surface is unsightly, and to conceal them below a plaster surface is messy and often impracticable. The invention proposes that surface routes should be chosen where walls, or wall and ceiling, meet, along a wall foot or round a door frame, the trunking or conduit being hidden by lengths of cove, cornice or skirting board, or, at a door or window, the architrave molding, fixed over the route. Typically, the trunking comprises a PVC trough (1A), rectangular in section, closed by a flat snap-on cover (1C). A suitable base surface for the latter is formed in the rear of the eg. cove or cornice (9), and to this it is fixed by adhesive, while the trunk bottom abuts the wall. The plane faces of the cornice lie against the walls, or wall and ceiling. Similar arrangements apply to skirting boards and architraves. Where conductors are numerous or to segregate wiring functionally, eg. separating power and communications, the trunking may be partitioned; this does not affect the general principle. Wood, or wood-based material is preferably used for the concealing element to suit the existing interior finish.
