Metallic orthodontic attachments are electroplated with a gold base layer and a nickel-free platinum group metal or alloy layer. Metallic orthodontic attachments are coated over their entire surface with a non-porous electroplated two-layer coating such as a 24 carat gold base layer and a layer of either a nickel-free -99.7% pure platinum group noble metal such as palladium, rhodium or platinum or a nickel-free precious metal alloy of a platinum group metal and gold. An Independent claim is also included for optionally implanted Ni, Cr, Co or Ti alloy dental prostheses, such as stellite fittings and bridge auxiliaries, treated as described above.
