The public telephone (PUB) noise nulling technique has a microphone (MICRO) and ear piece (E). There is a mechanism (M1) determining ambient zone noise levels from the microphone as well as a speech level. An estimator (M2) estimates noise levels, and a speech signal estimator (M3) provides a spectral subtraction of the ambient noise.
