The lock for a ball-and-socket joint (14, 26) mounted in a cylindrical sleeve (10) comprises two disks (28, 30) placed below the socket (26).These have grooves which face each other to form an annular channel (32) containing a number of balls (34). A rod (44) is inserted through a bore in the sleeve and has a wider end (40) which can be pushed between the balls to varying degrees, so that the socket is pushed against the ball section of the joint and it is locked against a retaining component (22) at the top of the sleeve.
