The patterns are formed on a water surface (1) using submerged closed boxes (2) with holes drilled at suitable intervals in their top face (3). The pattern of the holes determines the pattern seen at the water surface. Fluid is injected under pressure (6) to create the pattern by disturbing the water surface. A light source (5) is built into the submerged box.
